Ezra 2:69
Prov 29:18 "Where there is no vision, the people perish"
Hab 2:3 "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hasteth toward the end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay."
Can you tell me Abraham's father name? Why? Because he is not famous - he never accomplished his destiny. He could have been Abraham - the vision was given to him but he never finished it.
Gen 11:27-32 "Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And Haran begat Lot. And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. And Sarai was barren; she had no child. And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran."
Based on these scriptures, I submit to you God gave Tereh the vision of Canaan. Why else would Tereh take his whole family and leave Ur and journey toward Canaan - several hundred miles away? Tereh had the vision/dream but never fulfilled his destiny. One of the worst commentaries the Bible gives on a man is verse 31 KJV "...and he settled there." And then vs32 "...and Tereh died in Haran". He only got half way to his destiny. He gave up. He found a comfortable place and "settled there" - several hundred miles from his starting point - much of it rough/tough times - many years traveling the long road - many early/late days toiling hard - but he never wrote his vision down and it faded when he got to a "comfortable place"!
In life God gives vision/destiny to all of us. Are you going to fulfill your destiny? Do you see it clearly? Have you written it down so you can run with it? Are you going to after toiling years, find a comfortable place and settle there? If you do you will be no more known than Tereh! Oh yes you can make heaven from Haran - but you will not fulfill ALL God has destined for you!
What will stop you from arriving at your destiny?
PEOPLE
- Pharaohs - these folks will tell you they will, but they wont!
- Sauls - these will seemingly do everything to hunt you down and kill you.
- Michal - (David's wife) these will curse you for serving God.
- Nabols - (Abigail's husband) these are people who after you have prayed for them, protected them, will turn on you and not assist you in time of need.
- Sons of Eli - (I Sam 2:12 - "now the sons of Eli were worthless men") these may be your children you will have - in spite of how much you serve the Lord, you children may not - causing you great distress!
- Mahlons - (Ruth's 1st husband) these are spouses that you dearly love, cherish, and serve - those closest to you that you depend on, who leave you without anyone, possible through death, divorce, workaholic.
PLACES
- Red Seas - A seemingly uncrossable force in your life. While it must be forded, you cannot without God's help do it.
- Valley of Shadow of Death - a dark time when you can not see anything around you but extremely high mountains and there seems to be no way out.
- Desert - that dry place, barrenness, loneliness. At times it is so dry you question if God even exist.
YOU'RE OWN FAILURES/INADEQUENCIES
- Unbelief - Peter taking his eyes off Jesus when walking on water
- Overwhelmed - Noah when taking on the Ark Project
- Sin - David with Bathsheba then killing Uriah
- Lies - Abraham about Sarah
But with all of this - never take your eyes off the vision - never give up hope - keep walking toward it - Abram made many turns before he arrived at Canaan - even going down to Egypt - but he never gave up on his final destination. I'm convinced he wrote it down and kept it ever before him. He knew where he was going.
Winston Churchill after WW2 was asked to speak at a graduation of an elementary school. When introduced to speak he walked to the podium and said, "Never, never, never, never give up!" and sat back down. Etc.
"What God has joined together, let no man separate (put asunder)!" When God has put vision into your life do not let people, places, your failures keep you from accomplishing it! It is YOUR destiny. Do not be like Tereh, - Keep the faith no matter what! Abraham is known worldwide - He kept the faith! Nobody knows or has ever heard of Tereh, he "settled down"!
Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hasteth toward the end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not delay."
